FAQ 2018-03-15T19:37:09+00:00
Will Found buy or consign my items? 2018-01-05T05:17:08+00:00

We are selective about the items we buy and consign. We primarily deal in vintage and antique items, so if your items are more recent, we are less likely to bring them in. We look for funky and unusual items. There are certain things we are always looking for, and other items we have a hard time selling and will rarely buy.

If you think your items fit that description, we ask that you email us at info@foundmidland.com and include the following details:

  • Photo of the items
  • Any relevant details you can provide, such as age, brand name, condition (do the drawers work well? Does it have any weird smells or veneer damage?)
  • Asking price (even if it’s only a ballpark, this helps us know immediately if we are on the same page!)

We will get back to you within a few days once we have had a chance to look over your items and reach a consensus. We appreciate your patience. If you need a quicker answer, please call us during business hours and ask us to check the email.

CONSIGNMENT

Consigned items must be delivered to Found ready to sell. That means they must be clean, with no damage or odors. Consignors receive 65% of the sale price for items the size of a dining chair or smaller, and 60% of the sale price on larger items. The percentage is slightly smaller if the item sells via credit card, to cover merchant fees. We charge fees for items that require cleaning or repair, and reserve the right to refuse your items if they have problems that were not described in your email.

Consigning at Found is a little different than other shops. We don’t have a set schedule for markdowns. Instead, we discuss your minimum price before the item reaches the store, and we lower it as needed to sell the item, evaluating each item as it spends time in our storefront. If the item is not receiving any customer attention despite markdowns, we will ask you if you would like to go lower or retrieve your item.

BUY OUTRIGHTS

Sometimes, you need us to pick it up. Sometimes it’s a project. Sometimes you just need to wash your hands of it. We offer less for items we buy outright, but you get paid right away and don’t have to move it, clean it or repair it. We are growing our network of pickers, so if you love to shop but don’t have room in your house for anything else, get in touch!

HANDMADE & CUSTOM BUILT ITEMS

We also sell a carefully curated selection of handmade and custom built items from local artisans. We prefer items that our customers can’t find anywhere else over trendy, crafty items. We currently stock items ranging from hand-crafted, reclaimed wood furniture, mosaic bullet guitars and upcycled lighting from industrial metal items. If you sell your items elsewhere, they must be competitively priced in our store. Feel free to email us information about your work and we can go from there.

What kinds of things do you buy? 2018-01-05T05:40:20+00:00

There’s no single style or perspective. Our store features a range of styles, from mid-century modern and industrial to shabby chic and farmhouse, but they all speak to us. We look for pieces with personality and potential.

Things we are almost looking for:

  • Mid-century modern
  • Dressers & chests of drawers
  • Solid wood vintage items in excellent condition
  • Matching sets of nightstands, chairs and end tables

Things we always pass on:

  • Particle board or cheaply made items
  • Too-far-gone projects
  • Appliances such as stoves (if we don’t know how to fix it, we don’t buy it)

Things we have a hard time selling but make exceptions for, depending on the item:

  • Dishes
  • Large display pieces and entertainment centers
  • Full size beds
  • Rugs
  • Glass top tables
Where do you find all of this stuff? 2017-12-29T04:35:52+00:00

Cliche answer: if we told you, we’d have to kill you.

Seriously, though, we’re not gonna draw you a map, but our inventory comes from a variety of sources. Sometimes we get lucky and a fine citizen emails us with something they can’t use anymore. Most of the time, we scour local, statewide and cross-country sources for interesting pieces that catch our eye. Whenever we are traveling, we try to take a van or trailer. You can follow along with our adventures on our Instagram stories for the freshest picks. We are also growing our network of pickers, so shout out to you guys who send us tips!

Is everything in the storefront? 2017-12-29T04:54:32+00:00

No.

Ask us if you’re looking for something specific, as we have offsite storage and might know about a recent inquiry from someone hoping to sell to us. Sometimes we might pass on an item someone offers us, unless we know you’re looking!

How does custom painting work? 2018-03-30T04:33:11+00:00

We offer custom painting on items purchased in our store as well as customer items. We charge hourly, so the price of the paint job will depend on the finish, as well as the piece being painted.

When sending an inquiry, please include the following details to help us come up with a quote:

  • Photo and approximate size of the item
  • Inspiration photo or description of the desired finish including type of paint, color(s), level of distressing, and wax or varnish
  • Whether the piece needs any additional work, including filling existing hardware holes, repair to veneer damage, etc.

If you aren’t sure what you’re looking for, feel free to explore the Custom Painting and Maison Blanche Paint pages on our website, as well as searching for Maison Blanche Paint on Pinterest. You can also come by the shop to talk to us about options.

The next step is to start a contract. You can come by the store or fill out our PDF contract and email it to us. We will contact you when it is your turn to bring in your item(s). Sometimes we are up to 6-8 weeks out on paint jobs; contact us for current availability.

We also sell Maison Blanche Paint Company products if you prefer to D-I-Y your project.

We look forward to working with you!

How does the rental service work? 2018-01-05T05:36:05+00:00

We are developing a new aspect of our business: vintage rentals. Vintage rentals add something special to photo sessions, weddings, and charity events.

At the moment, we have a limited but growing rental inventory, and we are open to renting select items from the storefront. Please contact us for details about your project.

Do you ship? 2018-01-05T04:12:46+00:00

We currently ship small items. To get a quote, please send us your zip code and the items you are interested in.

Also, we will start to list selected items on Chairish.com in early 2018, and those larger items will be available with white glove shipping. Please follow along for updates!

Does Found offer estate sale or appraisal services? 2018-01-05T05:30:30+00:00

We are happy to shop from your estates and liquidations, but we are far too busy to add “running estate sales” to our list of services. We are sure you will be able to find one elsewhere, as there are many local companies doing a great job.

We do not offer appraisals, either.

Do you refinish furniture? 2017-12-31T20:08:04+00:00

Can we? Yes.

Do we offer the service? No, sorry. Our workshop lacks the space and ventilation.

Sometimes, as part of a paint job, we can strip, stain and refinish the top of a piece. But our main gig is painting, so if you’re looking to refinish your fine antiques, we would recommend looking for a cabinet shop or woodworker.

Does Found offer upholstery services? 2017-12-31T20:19:43+00:00

We do not offer in-house upholstery services aside from recovering flat dining room chair seats, which we do at our regular hourly rates.

Our customers have recommended Watley, Josie’s, and Odessa Upholstery. Good luck in your search!
