Original framed winter landscape painting by West Texas State University professor Emilio Caballero 1917-2010), framed in a slender ornate gold frame. In excellent vintage condition with some age appropriate wear to the frame.
Born at Newark, New Jersey, to Spanish immigrants Magdalena Berben Martin and Juan Caballero Gutierrez, Emilio Caballero (born 1917) came to the Texas Panhandle in 1937. He studied at Amarillo Junior College, West Texas State College, and Columbia University, earning a doctorate from Columbia in 1955.
Caballero then served in World War II in both Europe and the Pacific, after which he taught art in Amarillo and Dumas. He began teaching full time at West Texas State College in 1949, was appointed full professor and art department head in 1955, received the faculty excellence award in 1972, and resigned in 1979. Moreover, he delivered workshops and demonstrations all over the Southwest.
